Blue NuclearNahem Shoa’s artistic vision draws heavily on the current
state of affairs, the world turned upside down, financial crashes,
earthquakes, Tsunamis, people taking to the streets in public protests, uprisings and capitalism possibly in its death throes since the
financial crash of 2008: His paintings explore the comic, tragic
elements of a modern day ‘apocalypse’, or a Jean Baudrillard says ‘The Illusion of the end”.

Shoa’s work is a visual and intellectual response to all this.
Searching for the ‘truth’ in our 24-hour media bombarded world, Shoa’s multi layered paintings capture the zeitgeist of this moment in history, lingering invisibly in our collective unconscious.Brave New World
Shoa’s paintings are presentations of his own
documentation of history
. He appropriates images that directly relate to contemporary ‘history’ combined with icons from popular culture that have been evicted from their original purposes, Mickey Mouse, Buzz Light year, Edvard Munch’s Scream, Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga, to make new hybrid paintings. Shoa based his painting of Gaga, The Third of May, Assassination by Media on the most famous anti-war painting of the 19th century, Goya’s The Third of May.Gaga in this guise has based herself on the iconic images of Marilyn Monroe.

So, ironically Shoa’s painting talks about four icons, Warhol, Gaga, Marilyn Monroe and Goya. In Shoa’s painting ‘TsunAmy’ Amy Winehouse's own life becomes the perfect metaphor for describing disaster and the forces of nature.

Shoa’s paintings incorporate an assemblage of different elements seamlessly put together in an epic singularity of their combined effects using the process of quotation to bring history and painting into highly visible relief.
