landscapes
nahem shoa

I have been painting landscapes for over 20 years and have only been inspired to paint in the hot Mediterranean light
never being a fan of the grey northern skies. The landscape sketch tradition doesn’t interest me, I prefer to work on a
landscape painting for at least 4 or 5 times, usually spending around 4 hours on each session. My imagination is set
on fire by the iridescent light of southern Spain with it's azure skies and majestic mountainous landscape terrain.  I go
almost every year to a small village called Competa, tucked away in the mountains near Malaga.  It is here that I paint
directly in front of the motif and the nature around me becomes my studio.  My approach to landscape painting has been
inspired by the work and practice of Cezanne and Monet.
